Update for the 2025-2026 School Year: Students in grades 3-5 who seek participation in the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ School Choice Lottery for a Learning Immersion/Talent Development (LI/TD) magnet school must meet the entry requirement of being identified as ¾«¶«´«Ã½ally and/or Intellectually Gifted (AIG).  Future-enrolled students with an active ¾«¶«´«Ã½ student ID may request AIG screening during the established testing window (November 18th, 2024 – December 6th, 2024). Please reach out to Kenneth Hiroshige, TD Compliance Specialist, at kenneth1.hiroshige@cms.k12.nc.us to schedule testing.

The Learning Immersion and Talent Development (LI/TD) program provides students a learning environment focused on instructional strategies for advanced learners and rigorous curriculum. Students are expected to use analytical and critical thinking skills to solve real-world problems. Each school’s staff receives ongoing professional development on research-based strategies for best supporting advanced and gifted learners.

The Learning Immersion (LI) program serves grades K-5. Students are taught using rigorous instructional strategies and curriculum to foster critical and analytical thinking skills to help them reach their greatest academic potential.

The Talent Development (TD) program serves grades 3-5. The TD program provides a full-day, inclusive program for identified gifted students. Students who are not identified as ¾«¶«´«Ã½ally/Intellectually Gifted (AIG) by grade 3 may remain in the school and continue in the LI program.

All students in LI/TD schools have automatic continuation to the International Baccalaureate (IB) middle school program in their transportation zone.

• Students can apply through the School Choice Lottery.
