Mrs. Beth Slater
Hello and welcome to the NWSA Media Center!
My name is Mrs. Slater and I am your Media Coordinator. I started in 精东传媒 the 2004-2005 school year at Midwood/TAPS. I followed the school to Hawthorne (where it became Hawthorne High School) and then spent four years at Dilworth Elementary School before coming to NWSA in 2014. I grew up here in Charlotte, attending Myers Park High School, before moving away to Vermont to attend Bennington College and then returning to North Carolina to finish the majority of my undergraduate degree at NC State. I majored in Communication with a Mass Communication Concentration.
During my brief time at Bennington, I interned with an English teacher at Vance High School (now Julius S. Chambers High School), which helped me decide that I wanted to become a school librarian (aka "Media Coordinator"). I attended Syracuse University (SU) for my MS LIS, concentration in School Media, and then moved back home to Charlotte to start my career. Since being a Media Coordinator, I have earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Digital Libraries from SU and am continually learning and growing as I try to keep up with newer and newer technology and best practices! I was a Libby Gray Award Webmaster of the Year Finalist for the 2005-2006 school year and a Time Warner Cable Star Teacher in 2008. An original lesson plan of mine is featured in the book Designing Digital Literacy Programs with IM-PACT by Dr. Ruth Small and I am the co-author of a philosophy book on time travel called A Time Travel Dialogue (Open Book Publishers). During the 2014-2015 school year, I had the honor of being selected as a member of the first cohort of the NC Digital Leaders Coaching Network through the Friday Institute at NC State and during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years, participated again as a Coach for the second and third cohorts.
Please do not be a stranger! I am here to serve you and look forward to having the opportunity!
Yours,
Mrs. Slater
