    South Mecklenburg High School

Founded in 1959, South Mecklenburg High School is proud to be fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Our school offers a robust college preparatory curriculum, featuring a specialized World Language Magnet program. We are also one of the select schools nationwide certified to provide the Project Lead the Way STEM curriculum in Biomedical Science and Engineering.

Our expansive 65-acre campus, designed in a college-style layout, includes 13 buildings organized by academic departments. A state-of-the-art STEM building is equipped with cutting-edge technology and laboratory facilities to support advanced learning.

At South Mecklenburg, we celebrate the diverse talents and needs of our student body. Our programs are tailored to help each student explore their interests and reach their full potential. We offer Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses across most subjects, available through open enrollment, though some courses may have district prerequisites. Schedule constraints may affect the number of advanced classes a student can take.

In addition to core subjects, our curriculum features a wide array of electives and Career and Technical Education programs, including Computer Science, Biomedical Science, Engineering, Architecture, Business, and Marketing. Students can also participate in our Naval JROTC program, Health and Physical Education classes, a comprehensive World Languages program, and exceptional opportunities in Visual and Performing Arts.
