Dear Southwest Middle School Families,

I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the proud principal of Southwest Middle School. I bring over 20 years of experience in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (精东传媒) as a math teacher, facilitator, dean of students, and assistant principal. It is a privilege to continue serving our scholars in this role.

I am a parent of four adult children, two of whom are teachers in 精东传媒, and I have seven wonderful grandchildren. They inspire me every day with their kindness, determination, and love for learning. I am truly proud of each of them, as well as our Southwest scholars, who demonstrate these same qualities.

At Southwest Middle School, we are committed to building a positive community based on trust, respect, and high expectations. We believe that every scholar is entitled to a fair and equitable learning environment where they can thrive. We are working hard to engage our scholars as active learners, focusing on reflection, planning, and achievement across all subject areas. Our scholars are amazing, and we know that they have the potential to do incredible things. However, we also recognize that at times, we must remind them of their limitless possibilities and help them navigate the path toward realizing their dreams.

Middle school can be a challenging time as our scholars begin to form their identities and make decisions about their futures. Peer influence is strong, and this is the age when many scholars begin to think seriously about high school, college, and careers. This is why it’s essential that we, as parents and educators, partner together to support each scholar’s journey to high school graduation and beyond.

I encourage you to stay engaged with your child’s academic progress, including class performance, assessments, and interactions with their peers. Regular conversations with your child about their schoolwork, progress reports, and tests are vital to their success. Your involvement is crucial to their growth and development, and it ultimately shapes their transition into adulthood, which is the ultimate goal.

Thank you for your continued support and for being such an important part of our school community. I look forward to working together to help our scholars succeed!

Sincerely,

Dr. Andrea Foggie
