Mr. Erik Barton
Hello Devonshire Families!
I am extremely excited to join Devonshire Elementary School! I am a native of Flint, Michigan and moved to North Carolina for college in 2008. I attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I later attended Liberty University to obtain my Master’s Degree in Education Administration and Supervision. I am currently a doctoral student at Gardner-Webb University.
My career in education began after a short time of working in research and medical laboratories. I began teaching middle school science in Rowan Salisbury Schools. Since this time, I have also worked as a high school biology teacher, K-12 music teacher, Lead Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal. Throughout my time in education, I have had the opportunity to present on local, state, and national levels. Some of these opportunities include the National Science Teachers’ Association Conference, the Blended & Personalized Learning Conference, the North Carolina Middle Level Educators’s Association Conference, the NC Technology in Education Conference, and Rowan Salisbury Schools THINK! Conference. In 2017, I was honored to be a part of the NCMLE’s “Team to Watch.” My classroom served as one of six model classrooms in Rowan Salisbury Schools. I am a certified Restorative Practices Trainer with the International Institute of Restorative Practices.

It is my belief that each day is a new day with a fresh start and its own unique challenges. No matter how dark the night, we always believe in the coming of the morning!
