North Academy of World Languages Middle School Dress Code

As we are preparing our students for “College and Career Readiness,” The North Academy of World Languages expects our middle school students to be dressed for an academic atmosphere of purposeful learning and global citizenship. Our goal is to implement a dress code policy that is inclusive to all and appropriate for the academic school setting. We know, if enforced inappropriately, dress codes may impact students negatively based on gender, racial background, and gender orientation. Our staff will implement the dress code equitably and in a manner that does not demoralize, shame, or remove students from the academic setting. It is our goal to teach students the importance of dressing for the different settings they may find themselves in as they prepare for global citizenship. If there are consistent concerns regarding dress code, individual conversations with families, students, and administrators will take place to re-teach the reason a dress code exists.

Why are there no uniforms for our middle school students?

A majority of our middle school families, in the interest survey, indicated they did not want a uniform policy at the middle school level. We will look at this as a positive experience for our students in which they will be able to developmentally differentiate themselves from the elementary school. This policy also exists at our sister school South Academy of World Languages (SAIL).
